Bucs sink Saints after Fitzpatrick’s 4 TD game

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers outscored the New Orleans Saints. The Buccaneers won 48-40 on Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

“Going on the road against that team? We’re the biggest underdog in the NFL today,” Buccaneers head coach Dirk Koetter said. “That shows you what everybody on the outside knows about us.”

The Buccaneers improved to 1-0 on the season. The Saints fell to 0-1.

The 48 points were the most in a win since Week 11 of the 2015 season when the Buccaneers defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 45-17 at Lincoln Financial Field.

Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick went 21 of 28 for 417 yards. He also had four touchdowns.

Peyton Barber had 19 carries for 69 yards. Fitzpatrick had 12 carries for 36 yards and a touchdown.

Mike Evans had seven receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown. DeSean Jackson had five receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns. O.J. Howard had two receptions for 54 yards. Chris Godwin had three receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees went 37 of 45 for 439 yards. He also had three touchdowns.

Alvin Kamara had eight carries for 29 yards and two touchdowns. Mike Gillislee, who recently signed with the team after being released by the New England Patriots, had three carries for nine yards.

Michael Thomas had 16 receptions for 180 yards and a touchdown. Kamara had nine receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. Ted Ginn Jr. had five receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown. Benjamin Watson had four receptions for 44 yards.

The Buccaneers scored 17 points in the second half, while the Saints scored 16.

Fitzpatrick hit Evans for a 50-yard touchdown. He also hit Jackson for a 36-yard touchdown. Catanzaro also made a 36-yard field goal.

Kamara scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown for the Saints. Following the score, the Saints converted a two-point conversion.

Brees also hit Kamara for a seven-yard touchdown. Following the score, Brees hit Ginn Jr. to convert the two-point conversion.

The Buccaneers lead 31-24 at halftime. Kamara rushed for a five-yard touchdown. Brees hit Ginn Jr. for a 28-yard touchdown reception. Brees also hit Thomas for a six-yard touchdown.

Wil Lutz also connected on a 36-yard field goal.

Gillislee rushed for a two-yard gain, before being tackled by Buccaneers defensive back Vernon Hargreaves III. Gillislee fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Justin Evans, who returned it for a 34-yard touchdown.

Fitzpatrick hit Jackson for a 58-yard touchdown reception. He also hit Godwin for a nine-yard touchdown. He also scored on a three-yard rushing touchdown.

Chandler Catanzaro also made a 33-yard field goal.
