The Oakland Athletics will be without starting pitcher Sean Manaea with a shoulder injury. He’ll be sidelined through the 2019 season.
He’ll undergo surgery on his left shoulder next week. At that time, the Athletics should have a better time frame on his return.

The 26-year-old started 27 games this season. He went 12-9 with a 3.59 ERA in 160 2/3 innings.
He allowed 67 runs (64 earned runs) and had one complete game and one shutout. He had a 1.08 WHIP, while striking out 108 batters and walking 32.
He last pitched for the Athletics on August 24th against the Minnesota Twins. He went five innings and received the win. He allowed one run (0 earned runs) while striking out one and walking one on five hits.
He had been on the 10-day disabled list with a left rotator cuff injury. He was expected to miss the rest of the season, before Tuesday’s announcement.
The Indiana native, who was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the first-round of the 2013 MLB Draft, has spent the past three seasons with the Athletics. He is 31-28 with a 3.94 ERA in 464 innings pitched in his career.
He was traded on July 28th, 2015 by the Royals, along with Aaron Brooks, to the Athletics for Ben Zobrist and cash.
