Mohnton, Pa. — Vincent Nobile won the Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway on Sunday afternoon against Drew Skillman. Nobile went 6.586 at 210.01 mph.
Skillman, who plans not to race a full-time schedule next season, went 6.580 at 211.53 mph.
“All in all, what a great way to start the Countdown,” Nobile said. “If you really look at it, every single team out here can win the race. It’s just a matter of who has their stuff together the best that weekend. You just have to do the best you can. I think we have a pretty good racecar and as long as we can be in the top six in qualifying, I think we can get the job done.”
This is Nobile’s third win this season. Besides winning at Maple Grove Raceway, he has also won at Las Vegas 1 and Atlanta.
Prior to this final round, Nobile had an 8-6 advantage over Skillman. However, this was the first-time that they had faced each other in a final round.
Nobile, who also saw his brother-in-law Hector Arana Jr. win moments before he did, had the starting line advantage. Over the course of the rest of the race, he did not trail.
He won by 0.0237 seconds, or approx. 7 feet. This is Nobile’s 13th career win.
Now, with the win, he is second in points in the Countdown to the Championship.
