The No. 7 Stanford Cardinal needed overtime to escape Autzen Stadium with the win. The Cardinal defeated the No. 20 Oregon Ducks, 38-31, in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday night.
The Cardinal improved to 4-0 on the season. The Ducks fell to 3-1 overall.
Stanford has improved to 4-0 for the first-time since the 2013 season. They defeated the San Jose State Spartans, Army Black Knights, Arizona State Sun Devils, and the Washington State Cougars to go 4-0 to begin that season. They went 11-3 that season.
Last season, the Ducks began their season with a 3-0 record, before losing 37-35 to the Sun Devils. They then went 4-5 to end the season with a 7-6 record.
Cardinal quarterback K.J. Costello went 19 of 26 for 327 yards. He had three touchdowns.
Bryce Love, who returned to the lineup after missing last week’s game, had 19 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown.
Kaden Smith had six receptions for 95 yards. JJ Arcega-Whiteside had four receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Colby Parkinson had three receptions for 50 yards and a touchdown. Osiris St. Brown had two receptions for 49 yards.
Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert went 26 of 33 for 346 yards. He also had a touchdown and an interception.
CJ Verdell had 20 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown. Herbert had 11 carries for 35 yards. Tony Brooks-James had six carries for 27 yards and a touchdown. Cyrus Habibi-Likio had two carries for -8 yards and a touchdown.
Dillon Mitchell had 14 receptions for 239 yards. Johnny Johnson III had three receptions for 34 yards. Jacob Breeland had three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown.
In overtime, Costello hit Parkinson for a 23-yard touchdown for the 38-31 lead. Oregon could not convert on their overtime possession to score.
The game ended in regulation with a 31 all score. Ducks’ Habibi-Likio scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.
After an Oregon fumble, Joey Alfieri recovered a fumble. He then returned it for an 80-yard touchdown. Love then scored on a 22-yard touchdown.
Costello hit Arcega-Whiteside for their second touchdown of the game, as he caught a 15-yard touchdown on this play. Jet Toner also made a 32-yard field goal.
Oregon led 24-7 at halftime. Brooks-James scored on a seven-yard touchdown for the 7-0 lead. Herbert then hit Breeland for a seven-yard touchdown for the 14-0 lead.
Verdell scored on a 48-yard rushing touchdown for the 21-7 lead. Adam Stack also made a 38-yard field goal for the 24-7 lead.
Cardinal’s Costello hit Arcega-Whiteside for a 13-yard touchdown for their lone first half score.
