Clemson Tigers Head Coach Dabo Swinney announced on Monday a chance at starting quarterback. He has decided to go with true freshman Trevor Lawrence.
Lawrence will start in place of senior Kelly Bryant on Saturday. The Tigers face the Syracuse Orange at noon on ABC.
Bryant went 16-2 as a starter. One of those losses came at the hands of the Orange after Bryant left the game due to injury in 2017.
Lawrence, a former five-star prospect from Georgia, led the Tigers to five touchdown drives in six possessions on Saturday against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Clemson won 49-21.
Swinney put Lawrence as the No. 1 quarterback on the depth chart on Monday after splitting snaps with Bryant all season.
Bryant was given the first two drives of the game against the Yellow Jackets. He had one first down on just seven plays before Lawrence came in on the following possession.
Bryant came in during the second half against Georgia Tech to lead the team to a 10-play scoring drive in the second half to help the Tigers go up 42-14.
This season, Bryant has gone 36 of 54 for 461 passing yards and two touchdowns. He also has a QB rating of 146.90.
Lawrence has gone 39 of 60 for 600 passing yards and nine touchdowns. He also had two interceptions.
His QB rating is 191.8.
