According to TMZ Sports, an arrest has been made in the murder of former LSU basketball player Wayde Sims. He was killed early Friday morning.
Dyteon Simpson has been arrested early Saturday morning for the murder. He admitted to the authorities to shooting Sims.
He has been charged with second-degree murder. According to Louisiana law, Simpson faces his natural life in jail if he is convicted.
Sims, who was entering his junior season with the Tigers basketball team, was shot in the head. He was shot and killed near the Southern University’s Football Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The authorities were able to make an arrest quickly, because Simpson — during the shooting or shortly thereafter — lost his glasses at the scene, according to TMZ Sports. After the glasses were recovered by the authorities, they were tested for DNA.
The DNA on the glasses matched the DNA of Simpson.
In addition, the authorities also had video of the incident because it happened outside of a Subway restaurant.
“Simpson was questioned and admitted to being in possession of a weapon,” Baton Rouge Police Chief Murphy Paul said. “[He admitted] to being on the scene and admitted to shooting Wayde, as well.”
While Simpson is in jail, the investigation is still ongoing.
