Millican uses 3.726 pass to claim provisional lead

Great Clips/Parts Plus Top Fuel Dragster pilot Clay Millican is the provisional No. 1 qualifier on Friday night at the 33rd annual AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas. The Drummonds, Tennessee native went 3.726 at 328.54 mph near Dallas.

Millican is looking to claim his ninth No. 1 qualifier of the season. If he is able to claim his ninth No. 1 qualifier of the season on Saturday, it would mark his 19th No. 1 qualifier in his career.

“To be honest, we typically have a good idea of what the car is going to run,” Millican said. “That has all gone out the window since the Countdown started. I really didn’t think we were going to go .72 tonight. What David Grubnick (crew chief) is doing right now is totally impressive and the kids putting this together are unbelievable.”

Capco Contractors Top Fuel Dragster pilot Steve Torrence is the provisional No. 2 qualifier. The Kilgore, Texas native, who is racing less than two hours away from home, went 3.781 at 328.14 mph.

Reigning Top Fuel champion, Brittany Force, the driver of the Monster Energy Top Fuel Dragster, is the provisional No. 3 qualifier. The Yorba Linda, California native went 3.781 at 326.71 mph.

Pronto Auto Parts Top Fuel Dragster Blake Alexander is the provisional No. 4 qualifier. The Charlotte, North Carolina native went 3.797 at 325.69 mph.

AMALIEⓇ Motor Oil XTERMIGATORⓇ Top Fuel Dragster Terry McMillen is the provisional No. 5 qualifier. The Elkhart, Indiana native went 3.800 at 321.12 mph.

There are presently three dragsters that are not qualified. Cory McClenathan, who returned to the NHRA this weekend for the first-time in several-years, is presently qualified 17th after his 4.186 at 268.22 mph pass.

Countdown to the Championship contender Mike Salinas is presently 18th. The San Jose, California native went 4.220 at 205.66 mph.

Terry Totten is presently qualified in the 19th position. The Gretna, Nebraska native, who is driving Terry Haddock’s Dragster, went 4.683 at 170.30 mph.
