Red Sox send the Yankees packing with series clincher

The New York Yankees fans wanted to play the Boston Red Sox. But after Tuesday night, they do not like the result that they received.

The Red Sox eliminated the Yankees from the playoffs with a 4-3 loss at Yankee Stadium.

Boston won the series 3-1. Now, they will face the Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series, beginning on Saturday.

In the two games at Yankee Stadium, the Red Sox outscored the Yankees, 20-4.

With the Yankees trailing 4-1, Neil Walker made it 4-2 when he was hit by a Craig Kimbrel pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning. Aaron Judge scored on the play while Didi Gregorius moved to third base and Adeiny Hechavarría advanced to second base.

Gary Sánchez then was able to hit a sacrifice fly to get the Yankees within one run at 4-3. Gregorius scored on the play.

New York got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Brett Gardner hit a sacrifice fly to left field that scored Sánchez to make it 4-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Red Sox increased their lead to 4-0. Christian Vázquez hit a home run to right field.

J. D. Martinez helped Boston get on the board in the bottom of the third inning with a sacrifice fly to center field. Andrew Benintendi scored on the play for a 1-0 lead.

Ian Kinsler then doubled to deep left field to score Steve Pearce for the 2-0 lead. Eduardo Núñez then hit a single to left field to score Kinsler.

Red Sox pitcher Rick Porcello picked up the win. It’s also his first postseason win. He went five innings and allowed one earned run. Porcello also struck out one batter.

Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia received the loss. He went three innings and allowed three earned runs. He struck out one batter and walked two.

This may Sabathia’s last game with the Yankees. In addition, it may be his final MLB game ever.

Kimbrel received his second save after pitching in the ninth inning. He allowed two earned runs. He also struck out one batter and walked two.
