Georgia Southern defeated Texas State on Thursday night. The Eagles won 15-13 over the Bobcats at Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium in San Marcos, Texas.
The Eagles improved to 5-1 on the season. Georgia Southern has won three straight games after losing to No. 4 Clemson Tigers, 38-7, on September 15th.
The Bobcats fell to 1-5 on the season. Texas State has now lost four straight games after defeating the Texas Southern Tigers, 36-20, on September 8th.
Eagles quarterback Shai Werts went 7 of 12 for 51 yards.
Wesley Fields had 26 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown. Matt LaRoche had six carries for 26 yards.
Colby Ransom had a 14-yard reception. Mark Michaud had a nine-yard reception.
Bobcats quarterback Tyler Vitt went 13 of 21 for 132 yards. He also had a touchdown and an interception.
Backup quarterback Willie Jones III went 1 of 6 for 3 yards.
Keenen Brown had two carries for 64 yards and a touchdown. Jones III had 10 carries for 30 yards. Anthony Taylor had seven carries for 22 yards.
Hutch White had four receptions for 41 yards. Jeremiah Haydel had a 29-yard touchdown reception. Brown had three receptions for 24 yards. Mason Hays had two receptions for 23 yards.
Texas Southern scored 13 points in the second half, while Georgia Southern scored just five.
Bass made a 43-yard field goal. Jones III was sacked in the Texas State end zone for a 5-yard loss by Lane Ecton. The play resulted in a safety.
Bobcats’ Brown scored on a three-yard rushing touchdown. Vitt hit Haydel for a 29-yard touchdown reception.
Following this play, the two-point conversion pass failed.
Georgia Southern led 10-0 at halftime. Fields scored on a five-yard rushing touchdown. Tyler Bass also made a 24-yard field goal.
