Skillman uses final qualifying pass to claim No. 1 qualifier at zMAX

Gray Motorsports Pro Stock driver Drew Skillman is the No. 1 qualifier on Saturday at the NHRA Carolina Nationals presented by WIX Filters at zMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina. This is his seventh career No. 1 qualifier.

The Bargersville, Indiana native went 6.509 at 211.30 mph in the fourth qualifying session for the top spot. The Ray Skillman Auto Group driver — who will be stepping away from full-time competition next season — will face Shane Tucker in the first-round of eliminations on Sunday.

“We’re trying our best to finish as strong as we can this year,” said Skillman, who entered the weekend fourth in points. “We didn’t have the best year all year, but the race car is really coming together at the end of the season when it needs to. We’re going to try to get three more wins this year and this is a great start. We definitely feel very comfortable here.”

Melling Performance/Elite Performance Pro Stock driver Erica Enders-Stevens is the No. 2 qualifier. The Houston, Texas native went 6.513 at 211.96 mph.

She’ll face Wally Stroupe in the first-round of eliminations. The Grove, North Carolina went 6.708 at 206.01 mph.

Gray Motorsports Pro Stock driver Tanner Gray is the No. 3 qualifier. The Mooresville, North Carolina native went 6.516 at 212.33 mph.

He’ll face Alan Prusiensky in the first-round of eliminations. The Rockaway, New Jersey native went 6.608 at 209.72 mph.

JEGS.com/Elite Performance Pro Stock driver Jeg Coughlin Jr. is the No. 4 qualifier. The Delaware, Ohio native went 6.522 at 211.69 mph.

He’ll face Fernando Cuadra in the first-round of eliminations. The Mexico native went 6.568 at 210.34 mph.

Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock driver Jason Line is the No. 5 qualifier. The Mooresville, North Carolina native went 6.523 at 211.59 mph,

He’ll face his Team Summit teammate Bo Butner in the first-round of eliminations. The Floyd Knobs, Indiana native, who is the reigning Pro Stock champion, went 6.556 at 211.56 mph.
