The Cincinnati Reds have hired David Bell as the team’s new manager. He agreed to a three-year deal to lead the team moving forward.
The 46-year-old will be introduced by the team as their new manager at 11 am on Monday. In his contract, there is also a club option for the 2022 season.
He replaces Bryan Price and Jim Riggleman, who both served as managers last season. Price was fired in April, before Riggleman, who was previously the team’s bench coach, took over on an interim basis.

Bell comes to the Reds after working as the San Francisco Giants farm director. He was in his first season with Giants.
He returns home with this move, as he is a Cincinnati, Ohio native. He also played 12 MLB seasons, including the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, Giants, and the Milwaukee Brewers.
His grandfather, Gus, is in the Reds Hall of Fame. In addition, his father, Buddy, is a Vice President and Senior Advisor to General Manager Dick Williams.
The younger Bell previously interviewed with the Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers. He was a finalist for the Blue Jays managerial role.
Before joining the Giants in a front office role, he previously worked on the Cardinals staff from 2014-17. He was Mike Matheny’s assistant hitting coach before being promoted to the team’s bench coach for the final three seasons.
He also spent the 2013 season with the Chicago Cubs as Dale Sveum’s bench coach.
Bell also spent four years as a manager within the Reds farm system. He first managed the Double-A Carolina Mudcats from 2009 to its final season in 2011.
He also managed Triple-A Louisville Bats during the 2012 season.

Bell will attempt to take the Reds to the postseason for the first-time since 2013. They lost in the National League Wild Card game to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
In fact, they have not won a postseason series since 1995 when they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-0 in the National League Divisional Series. They were then swept 4-0 to the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series.
