The Boston Red Sox now have a commanding lead in the World Series, as they are now up 2-0. The Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers, 4-2, on Wednesday night at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass.
The World Series will take the day off for travel on Thursday, before continuing from Friday through Sunday in Los Angeles.
The Red Sox are now 9-0 when they score first in the postseason. The 9-game win streak when scoring first is tied for the second-most single-season streak in postseason history. The 2004 Red Sox had a longer streak, as they went 10-0 when scoring first.
Home teams, according to ESPN’s Stats & Information, who won the first two games of the Best-of-7 Series have won the series 82% of the time. The home teams, who went up 2-0, are up 46-10 all-time.
In addition, Red Sox pitcher David Price became the fourth pitcher in team history to go at least six innings and allow three or fewer hits in consecutive postseason appearances, joining Derek Lowe in 2004, Pedro Martínez in 1999 and Jim Lonborg in 1967.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Red Sox scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead. First, Steve Pearce walked with the bases loaded to score Christian Vázquez. Mookie Betts moved to third base and Andrew Benintendi moved to second base.
J.D. Martinez then singled to right field to score both Betts and Benintendi for a 4-2 lead.
The Dodgers tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Matt Kemp hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game, as David Freese scored.
Yasiel Puig then singled to shallow center field, as the Dodgers took a 2-1 lead. Manny Machado scored on the play.
The Red Sox took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Ian Kinsler singled to left field, as Xander Bogaerts scored.
Price received the win. He went six innings and allowed two runs on three hits. He also struck out five batters and walking three.
Joe Kelly and Nathan Eovaldi received holds. Craig Kimbrel also picked up the save.
Kelly went one inning and struck out two batters. Eovaldi also went one inning and struck out one batter.
Kimbrel pitched the ninth inning, as he was perfect in the final inning.
Hyun-jin Ryu received the loss. He went 4 2/3 innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits. He also struck out five batters and walked one.
