Great Clips/Parts Plus Top Fuel Dragster pilot Clay Millican is the provisional No. 1 qualifier on Friday night at the NHRA Toyota Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. Millican claimed the top spot on the second qualifying pass.
The Drummonds, Tennessee native went 3.699 at 327.82 mph in his dragster. He picked up some points on points leader Steve Torrence, who leads by 169 points.
“We are having a heck of a year,” said Millican. “We definitely want to finish as high as we possibly can. That is my goal. Whatever that position I want it to be as high as it can. If it is second place, it is second place, as that is my career best point finish in NHRA.”
Torrence, the Capco Contractors Top Fuel Dragster pilot — who won the first four races in the Countdown to the Championship — is presently second. The Kilgore, Texas native went 3.738 at 324.67 mph.
Reigning Top Fuel Dragster pilot Brittany Force is the provisional No. 3 qualifier in her Monster Energy Top Fuel Dragster. The Yorba Linda, California native went 3.737 at 328.94 mph.
Matco Tools Top Fuel Dragster pilot Antron Brown is the provisional No. 4 qualifier. The Pittsboro, Indiana native went 3.766 at 324.28 mph.
U.S. Army Racing Top Fuel Dragster pilot Tony Schumacher is the provisional No. 5 qualifier. The Hills, Texas native went 3.772 at 330.15 mph.
