The Oregon Ducks received good news on Thursday. Starting quarterback Justin Herbert has cleared concussion protocol.

It was a surprise when it was announced earlier this week that he suffered a concussion. There was no mention of him ever being injured against the Arizona Wildcats last Saturday.

He will be able to start against the UCLA Bruins on Saturday. The Bruins and the Ducks have a primetime meeting on FOX at 7:30 pm EST from Autzen Stadium.

For some reason, if he cannot go, Braxton Burmeister will start.

Herbert returned to practice on Wednesday after he was forced to miss practice earlier in the week.

“It was a good day, but we still evaluate every single piece of it,” Ducks head coach Mario Cristobal said. “There is always the medical part first, you do it the right way. You do it like it is your own son and make sure the medical part is taken care of. Then after that, you make sure about everything else, how he feels with everything.”

Herbert — who is considered the best quarterback prospect in the 2019 NFL Draft — has gone 155 of 260 for 2,069 yards in eight games. He also has a career-high 20 touchdowns and six interceptions.

His best game of the season came on September 22nd, 2018 against the Stanford Cardinal. He went 26 of 33 for 346 yards in the 38-31 overtime loss. Herbert also had one touchdown and one interception.
