Huskies win fifth straight with a win over Akron

The Norther Illinois Huskies defeated the Arkon Zips on Thursday night. The Huskies won 36-26 over the Zips at  InfoCision Stadium in Akron, Ohio.

The Huskies improved to 6-3 on the season. They are now 5-0 in conference play.

Northern Illinois is now on a five-game win streak.

The Zips fell to 4-4 on the season. They are now 2-3 within the conference.

Akron had its two-game win streak snapped with the loss.

Huskies quarterback Marcus Childers went 21 of 28 for 188 yards. He also had a touchdown.

Tre Harbison had 23 carries for 169 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Jones had 15 carries for 82 yards. D.J. Brown had five carries for 30 yards. Spencer Tears had three carries for 10 yards and a touchdown.

Jauan Wesley had three receptions for 50 yards. Tears had three receptions for 25 yards. Dennis Robinson had two receptions for 24 yards. Corey Lersch had two receptions for 23 yards. Jones had four receptions for 21 yards.

Zips quarterback Kato Nelson went 18 of 26 for 299 yards. He also had two touchdowns.

Alex Ramart went 3 of 12 for 27 yards. He also had a touchdown and two interceptions.

Van Edwards Jr. had 12 carries for 38 yards.

Andre Williams had eight receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown. Kwadarrius Smith had four receptions for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Stewart had three receptions for 36 yards. Jonah Morris had two receptions for 22 yards.

Northern Illinois scored 12 points in the second half. Jalen McKie returned an interception for a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown. McKie also turned a blocked PAT into a  defensive PAT conversion. 
Andrew Gantz also made a 40-yard field goal. 
Arkon scored 17 points in the second-half. Nelson hit Smith for a 13-yard touchdown reception. Ramart hit Smith for a six-yard touchdown reception. 
Nick Gasser also made a 25-yard field goal.
The Huskies led 24-10 at halftime. Childers hit Lersch for a 19-yard touchdown reception. Harbison had a two-yard rushing touchdown. 
Tears scored on five-yard rushing touchdown. Gantz also made a 30-yard field goal. 
Zips’ Nelson hit Williams for a 22-yard touchdown reception. Gasser also made a 27-yard field goal.
