For eight days, Larry Drew did not have a contract to be the Cleveland Cavaliers interim head coach. He even said he wasn’t the interim head coach.
Drew reaches an agreement with the Cavaliers on Monday to be named the interim head coach for the rest of the season. The franchise will give him a pay raise with the move.
There is also a partial guarantee for next season. Drew replaces Tyronn Lue, who was fired by the team on Sunday, October 28th.
He is taking over a team that is struggling this season. The team is 1-8 and play against the Orlando Magic on Monday night.
Drew will now be responsible for making al the calls. Previously, Cavaliers general manager Kolby Altman wanted Lue to sit the veterans and play the younger players.
This has caused J.R. Smith to request a trade.it was reported on Sunday that the franchise reneged on a promise to Kyle Korver.
He is allegedly told that if LeBron James left the franchise, he would be traded or bought out in shortly thereafter in the summertime. Korver said that the promise would allow him to relocate his family to his new city and not within a season,
James signed with the Los Angeles Lakers in July.
Drew will be an NBA head coach for the third-time in his coaching career. He previously coached the Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks.
