Embattled Colorado Buffaloes head coach Mike MacIntyre has been fired. Last week, there was a report suggesting he was fired at the end of the season.

However, athletic director Rick George denied the Denver7 report hours later. Now, MacIntyre has officially been fired by the school, according to Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman.

“I want to thank Mike for six seasons of hard work and dedication to the program, both on and off the field, “Athletic Director Rick George said. “There’s no doubt that the 2016 season was magical, but it appeared we were headed back to taking our place among the nation’s elite. However, analyzing the direction of the program over the last two seasons, I felt this is the necessary time to make a change.”

The 53-year-old MacIntyre had $10.3 million left on his contract at the end of his firing. His contract was slated to run through the 2021 season.

If he gets hired by an NFL or NCAA team as a head coach or assistant coach, the school will have reduced obligations by his new salary.

The Buffaloes were defeated 30-7 by No. 19 Utah Utes in his last game. An interim coach will be named by the school to finish out the season at California on Saturday, November 24th.

MacIntyre had only one winning season at the school. That came in 2016, as the team went 10-4 and lost in the Alamo Bowl as No. 11 Colorado was defeated 38-8 by No. 13 Oklahoma State Cowboys.

In the past two seasons, he has had a combined 10 wins at the school. They also had 13 losses, as well.

In six seasons at Colorado, he had a combined 30-44 record in 74 games. Outside of that 10-win season, he did not have another season with more than five seasons.

Through nine seasons as a college football head coach, including a stop with the San Jose State Spartans, he has gone 46-65 in 111 games. He is also 0-1 in his lone bowl appearance.

If you eliminate his two 10-win seasons in 2012 with the Spartans and the 2016 season with the Buffaloes, he has just 26 wins over seven seasons. That is an average of 3.7 wins per season.
