WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford beloved the New York Yankees will pursue free agent pitcher Nathan Eovaldi. Bradford insists “everyone and their mother is on Eovaldi.”
The starter had a strong postseason that helped his free agent stock. Eovaldi helped the Red Sox defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series in 5 games.
While Bradford says the Yankees are interested, they are not one of the teams mostly being mentioned for his services. The Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Angels, Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Toronto Blue Jays, San Diego Padres, and the San Francisco Giants are other teams interested in him.
The Phillies are expected to spend big this offseason. They are expected to be the leading candidates for Bryce Harper and Manny Machado.
The 28-year-old Eovaldi was acquired in the summer time in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. In exchange, the Rays acquired Jalen Beeks.
In the regular season, Eovaldi was 3-3 in 11 starts with the Red Sox. He had a 3.33 ERA in 54 innings. He allowed 28 runs (20 earned runs), including three home runs. He struck out 48 batters and walked 12.
Eovaldi was 2-1 in the Red Sox World Series Championship run in six games, including two starts, and one game finished. He had a 1.13 ERA in 22 ⅓ innings, while allowing five runs (four earned runs), including home run. He also had 16 strikeouts and three walks.
