Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan helped Hurricane victims on Tuesday in Wilmington, North Carolina. Certain parts of the State were destroyed after Hurricane Florence a few months ago.
Jordan donated $2 million in September to a fund to help those, who were affected by the storm. He gave $1 million to the American Red Cross and another $1 million to the Foundation for the Carolinas Hurricane Florence Response Fund.
“I can give money all day long, but at some point you want them to understand you’re human,” Jordan told AP.

Jordan was outside of a home improvement store when he was handing out Thanksgiving dinners to families. He also gave away Jordan Brand shoes to the Boys & Girls Club.
As a young kid, Jordan used to play at the Boys & Girls Club after his family relocated from Brooklyn, New York.
“You really want to trust that money goes to the right people,” Jordan said. “And when you see it goes to the right people, it makes me feel good that I did the right thing.”

The NBA legend — who played his NBA career with the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards — said he would monitor the relief efforts moving forward. He said he would be willing to partner with other organizations to help those affected.

James Jarvis, the American Red Cross executive director, said that there is a $50 million budget for those affected by the Hurricane. He said that there were more than 20,000 people, who were sheltered in 172 locations.
He also said the American Red Cross provided 1.3 million meals and snacks. The organization, according to Jarvis, already spent $3.8 million to help more than 6,500 families.
“I wanted to be an igniter to the process,” Jordan said of his initial donation. “But it’s going to take a long time before things get back to normal. Whatever way I can contribute I will.
“I am pretty sure that the league will have some support systems that will reach out to this community. And we are going to do a lot in Charlotte, too. But the overall game is about helping other people, so I can see it reaching all the way down to this area.”
