The Morgan State Bears football position is now available. Earnest T. Jones may not return to the program after serving as the interim head coach, defensive coordinator, and defensive backs coach.
Jones guide the team to a 4-7 record this season. He is a candidate for the position.
“As Interim head coach, Ernest gave his all to the Morgan State Bears football program this year, and moved the program forward in many ways. We thank Ernest and his family for their service and commitment to Morgan State student-athletes,” Athletic Director Edward Scott said.
The Bears ended the season on a two-game win streak. They defeated the Norfolk State Spartans, 44-27, on November 17th.
It was Morgan State’s first win over Norfolk State since the 2006 season.
The team also won 9-0 against the Delaware State Hornets on November 10th.
The team suffered a three-game losing streak in the middle of the season. They lost to the Howard Bison, Florida A&M Rattlers, and the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats.
Prior to the three-game skid, the Bears won two out of three games. They defeated then-No. 4 North Carolina A&M Aggies, 16-13 on September 22nd. They then lost on homecoming to the South Carolina State Bulldogs, 21-18.
The Bears defeated the Savannah State Tigers, 18-11, on October 13th.
Morgan State began the season with a three-game losing streak. They were defeated by the Towson Tigers, Akron Zips, and the Albany Great Danes.
