The Iowa Hawkeyes are planning a C-17 flyover for Friday’s game. It is from the 87th Air Base Wing.
The Flyover will happen at Kinnick Stadium prior to the game with the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
For those that do not know, the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III is the largest military transport aircraft. The large aircraft performs tactical and strategic airlift missions, as it transports troops and cargo around the world.
Sometimes, it is used in medical evacuation and airdrop missions.
This rivalry goes back a century. This contest is given the name “Heroes Game.”
Since Nebraska moved to the Big Ten Conference, these two teams have played in the Heroes Game since 2011. The winner of the game also receives the Heroes Trophy.
The Heroes game is also used to recognize an individual from within their state, who had performed acts of heroism in their community.
Nebraska has not won the Heroes Trophy since the 2014 season when they won 37-34 in overtime.
The Cornhuskers come into the game with a 4-7 record. The Hawkeyes have a 7-4 record.
The Hawkeyes have won three straight games in the series. They have also won 12 of the last 15 games in the series.
