Braves, Donaldson agree to one-year deal

The Atlanta Braves have signed free-agent third baseman Josh Donaldson on Monday. It is a one-year, $23 million deal.

In order to add Donaldson to the 40-man roster, the team has designated pitcher Adam McCreery for assignment.

The $23 million is the same amount that he made last season between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Cleveland Indians.

The 32-year-old Pensacola, Florida native will be joining his fourth MLB team. This will be his first team in the National League.

He previously spent time with the Oakland Athletics, Blue Jays, and the Indians. He played in just 16 games with the Indians after an Aug. 31st waiver trade.

He also just had one hit during the Indians postseason.

In his 16 games with the Indians, he had a .280 batting average. He also had three home runs and seven RBIs in 50 at-bats.

With the Blue Jays, he appeared in 36 games. He also had a .234 batting average with five home runs and 16 RBIs in 137 at-bats.

Donaldson was limited to just 52 combined games this past season due to injuries. The 52 games were his fewest since 2012 when he appeared in 75 games.

In his career, he has appeared in 883 games. He has a career .275 batting average with 182 home runs and 551 RBIs in 3,292 at-bats.

He had a career season in 2015 with 41 home runs and 123 RBIs in 2015. He had 70 home runs and 177 over the next two seasons.
