According to MLB.com’s Mark Bowman, the Atlanta Braves have signed catcher Brian McCann. It is a one-year deal worth $2 million.
McCann spent his first nine seasons in Major League Baseball with the Braves. He is also an Atlanta, Georgia native.
“The fact that he cares about this place so much, about the community and Atlanta and the Braves, it’s hard to quantify that,” Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said. “So that has tremendous value beyond what he’s going to provide in the [batter’s] box or behind the plate. From a financial standpoint, it fit in a lot of ways and allowed us to do a lot of other things we plan on doing, as well.

“He wanted to be here. He didn’t need to do this at all. This is about winning for him. A lot of players say it, but they don’t really honor and live up to that. I’m not surprised given how others talk about [McCann’s] character and makeup.”
At the moment, he is the only Braves catcher. Tyler Flowers, who is listed on the depth chart on the Braves website, is a free agent.
McCann spent the past two seasons with the Houston Astros. He also was a part of the team’s 2017 World Series Championship.
This season, he had a .212 batting average. He also had seven home runs and 23 RBIs in 63 games.

He also spent three seasons with the New York Yankees in between the Braves and Astros stints. He played in the Bronx, New York from 2014 through 2016.
McCann played for the Braves from 2005 through 2013.
