According media reports, the current Washington State Cougars head coach Mike Leach is interested in returning to Lubbock, Texas. He has turned the Cougars into a Top 15 program this season.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders fired Kliff Kingsbury on Sunday. Leach was the team’s head coach from 2000 through 2009.
This season, Kingsbury finished with a 5-7 mark. The team also went 3-6 in the Big 12Conference.
At one time this season, the team was ranked as the No. 25 ranked team.
Leach guided the Cougars to a 10-2 mark this season. They suffered their second loss on Friday night in the Apple Cup to the Washington Huskies.
Their other loss came on September 21st against the USC Trojans when they lost 39-36 in Los Angeles, California.
Leach has just completed his seventh season in Pullman, Washington. He is 48-40 in 88 games at Washington State.
After going 12-25 in his first three seasons, he guided the team to a 36-15 record. The 10-2 mark this season is his best record at the school.
In 17 seasons as a college football coach, he is 132-83 in 215 games. He went 84-43 in 10 seasons with the Red Raiders.
