Wolverines’ Rashan Gray declares for Draft

Michigan Wolverines junior defensive tackle Rashan Gary declared for the 2019 NFL Draft on Monday. The junior is considered to be a first-round draft pick. 

The former No. 1 recruit in the country is being mentioned in numerous mock drafts as being a Top 10 pick.

He made the announcement through a YouTube announcement.

“I would like to thank my higher power, my family, the University of Michigan, the students and the fans, but I will be forgoing my senior season to make a dream come true to declare for the draft,” Gary said in the statement.

At the moment, he is the No. 8th-best prospect in Mel Kiper’s latest Big Board.

The Plainfield, New Jersey native had 38 tackles this season in nine games. He also had 6.5 tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks.

In his career with the Wolverines, he had 119 tackles, including 23.0 tackles for a loss. He also had 9.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

When he signed with Michigan, he was the highest-ranked recruit to sign with the school in the Jim Harbaugh era. He followed Chris Partridge to Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Partridge, who is presently the team’s safeties coach, was Gary’s high school coach at Paramus Catholic High School in North Jersey. In addition, Jabrill Peppers also attended Paramus Catholic High School was at Michigan when Gary arrived in 2016.
