According to reports, the XFL has chosen St. Louis, Missouri as the first location for the 2020 season. The last professional football game held in St. Louis was on Dec. 17th, 2015.
The then-Rams franchise won 31-23 over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Following the season, the franchise relocated to Los Angeles, California.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports, according to KSDK Channel 5, several of the team’s games will be played at the Dome at America’s Center. That was previously the home of the Rams.
The NFL played in St. Louis from 1995 through 2014. As the St. Louis Rams, the team went 148-197-1 in the regular season and playoffs.
The franchise also had three Division titles in St. Louis. They also won two Conference Championship, along with Super Bowl XXXIV in a 20-17 win over the New England Patriots.
The XFL is slated to have eight teams. This is a re-launch of the previous XFL of 2001. Vince McMahon’s Alpha Entertainment is the sole owner of the league.
The teams are slated to play a 10-game schedule. McMahon announced in January that his brain-child would be returning.
Oliver Luck was named the league’s Commissioner and CEO in June. He is a former NFL quarterback and the father of Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.
Earlier this month, Doug Whaley was named the league’s Senior Vice President of Football Operations. He was the Buffalo Bills GM from 2013 through 2017.
