It appears like the 72-year-old actor Sylvester Stallone has retired from his role in the Rocky/Creed franchise. The second Creed movie ‘Creed 2’ debuted in movie theaters Thanksgiving weekend.

Rocky and Creed is a boxing sports-drama film series. It first began in 1976 with the first film of Rocky. The films were based around “Rocky Balboa,” which was played by Stallone.

Recently in an Instagram post — it can be seen below — Stallone talks about the Rocky and Creed films. He said in 2006, he thought Rocky was over. Then a young man presented himself. The young man is Michael B. Jordan — who Stallone said had to carry the mantle.

“I just want to thank everyone around the whole wide World for taking the Rocky family into their hearts for over 40 years,” Stallone said. “It’s been my Ultimate privilege to have been able to create and play this meaningful character. Though it breaks my heart, Sadly all things must pass… and end. I love you Kind and generous people , and The most wonderful thing of all , is that ROCKY will never die because he lives on in you ….”

There has been eight movies in the series. The way Stallone was talking, there will be more movies to come. The eight movies have made $1.407 billion in box office revenue.

Rocky was made in 1976, then Rocky II followed in 1979. Rocky III made its debut in 1982. Rocky IV launched in 1985.

After making the first four movies every three years, the next movie was not made until 1990 with Rocky V. Then, Rocky Balboa was made 16-years later in 2006.

Creed debuted in theaters in 2015. Three-years later, Creed II was released to the public.
