Michigan Wolverines wide receivers coach Jim McElwain is a strong candidate for the Central Michigan Chippewas head coaching job, according to FootballScoop. He just completed his first season at Michigan.
Central Michigan is looking for a head coach after firing John Bonamego. They had a 1-11 record in 2018.
McElwain is 44-28 as a college football head coach with the Colorado State Rams and the Florida Gators. He is also 2-1 in Bowl games.

The 56-year-old Missoula, Montana native was the Gators head coach from 2015 through 2017. He also was the Rams head coach from 2012 through 2014.
McElwain was fired by the Gators after seven games into the 2017 season. He allegedly made claims that there were threats made against the program that were unfounded, which led to his firing.
Prior to arriving in Colorado, he was the Alabama Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2008 through 2011. He was the Fresno State Bulldogs offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2007.
McElwain spent the 2006 season as the Oakland Raiders quarterbacks coach. He was the Michigan State Spartans assistant head coach, wide receivers, and special teams coach from 2003 through 2005.

He was the Louisville Cardinals wide receivers and special teams coach from 2000 through 2002. He worked as the Montana State Bobcats offensive coordinator, wide receivers, and special teams coach from 1995 through 1999.
McElwain was the Eastern Washington Eagles quarterbacks and wide receivers coach from 1987 through 1994. He began his coaching career as the Eagles graduate assistant in 1985 and 1986.
