Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has left the SEC Championship. He left in the fourth quarter with an injury.
Tagovailoa — who has been battling an injury in recent weeks — went to the sidelines when he collided with one of his teammates. He also had a problem earlier in the game when he went down with a potential injury.
He suffered a left ankle injury. He collided with offensive linemen Jonah Williams on a passing play.
After going down, he stayed down for a prolonged period of time. A card had to be used to transfer Tagovailoa to the locker room.
During the team’s first drive, he went into the medical sideline tent. A short time later, he emerged and remained in the game until being injured in the fourth quarter.
Tagovailoa went 10 of 25 for 164 yards. He also had a touchdown and two interceptions.
In 13 games, Tagovailoa has gone 199 of 294 for 3,353 yards. He also has 37 touchdowns and four interceptions.
Tagovailoa will bein New York City next Saturday for the Heisman Trophy ceremony. If he’s the winner, he will stay there for the Heisman Trophy Gala on Sunday night before returning to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
After that, he’ll have time to rest his ankle before his next game.
