Oklahoma Soonersjunior quarterback Kyler Murray has been announced as a 2018 Heisman Trophy Finalists. He will attend the Heisman Trophy ceremony on Saturday, December 8thin New York City.
Murray will attendthe pre-Heisman Trophy ceremoy festivities on Friday. Then, he’ll attend the Heisman Trophy ceremony on Saturday with the winner being announced around 8:50pm EST.
Murray will join Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Dwayne Haskins in the Big Apple.
This is the third-straight year that Oklahoma has sent a finalist to New York. Baker Mayfield was a finalist in 2016, before winning the prestigious award in 2017.
Oklahoma has six Heisman Trophy winners. Besides Mayfield, Sam Bradford won the award in 2008. Jason White also won it in 2003.
Billy Sims was announced as the winner in 1978. Steve Owens also won in 1969. Billy Vessels won the first Sooners Heisman Trophy in 1952.
The Sooners has also had five runner-ups. The last was Adrian Peterson, who finished second in 2004.
Murray has gone 241 of 340 for 4,053 passing yards in 13 games in his first season as the starter. He also has 40 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
He also has 123 carries for 892 yards and an additional 11 touchdowns.
