Bills release Kelvin Benjamin, Andre Holmes

The Buffalo Bills have released wide receivers Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes on Tuesday. The team also placed center Russell Bodine on injured reserve.

The 27-year-old Belle Glade, Florida native was acquired at the trade deadline in October 2017 by the Bills from the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers acquired a third-round and a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Benjamin made 18 appearances with the Bills, including 16 starts. He had 39 receptions for 571 yards and two touchdowns.

In his final game with the Bills, he had two receptions for 20 yards in a 21-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. His best game of the season was four receptions for 71 yards in a 37-5 against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7.

His lone touchdown came in Week 2. He had two receptions for 19 yards against the Los Angeles Chargers.

In his five-year career, he appeared in 58 games, including 52 starts. He had 207 receptions for 2,995 yards and 20 touchdowns.

“It’s just a bad season,” Benjamin said. “It is what it is. Just football, man. You have good seasons, you have bad seasons. I’ve had successful seasons in this league. I’ll have plenty more. For some reason, it’s just not the year.”

The 30-year-old Hoffman Estate, Illinois native was in his second season with the Bills. Holmes made 12 appearances, including three starts. He had 12 receptions for 157 yards.

He also played for the Oakland Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys. In his career, he made 91 appearances, including 25 starts. He had 127 receptions for 1,739 yards for 15 touchdowns.

Holmes did not play in the past two games with the Bills. He had one reception for 22 yards against the New York Jets in Week 10.

His best game of the season came in Week 8, as he had two receptions for 45 yards.
