Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez wins MVP Award

The Atlanta United Star Josef Martinez has been awarded the Landon Donovan MLS MVP on Wednesday. Martinez was presented the award at the Arthur M. Blank Family Office in Atlanta.

This season, Martinez had 31 goals. He won the award with a 47.93% of the vote.

Martinez received 50% of the player vote. He also received 42.45% of the club vote.

The media vote gave Martinez 51.35% of the vote.

Martinez had 31 goals in 34 games. He took 56 shots on goal on the season in 2,898 minutes.

Zlatan Ibrahimović — who was in his first season with the Los Angeles Galaxy — had 22 points. He beat out his teammate Miguel Almirón finished second.

He received 15.03% of the total votes. The third-place finisher was Ibrahimović.

He received 11.60% of the vote.

Wayne Rooney from D.C. United finished fourth. LAFC’s Carlos Vela was the fifth-place finisher. Martinez is the first MVP in Atlanta United’s franchise history.

He is the first Eastern Conference MVP since David Villa in 2016 with the New York City FC. Diego Valeri won the award last year with the Portland Timbers.

On Saturday night for the MLS Championship, the Timbers face Atlanta United in Atlanta.
