Charleston Southern Buccaneers head football coach Mark Tucker resigned on Friday. He was the school’s head coach for the last two seasons.
He guided the team to a 5-6 record in 2018. In his first-year at the school, he had a 6-5 mark.
“I want to thank Mark for his hard work and commitment to CSU and the Buccaneers for the past six seasons and we wish him nothing but the very best,” Athletic Director Jeff Barber said.
He was the Buccaneers Quarterbacks Coach from 2013 through 2016.
Assistant Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator Zane Vance has been named the team’s Interim Head Coach until a new Head Coach is appointed.
The Buccaneers got off to an 0-2 start to begin the season. In the season-opener, the team was defeated 53-6 by the Florida Gators on September 1st. Two weeks later, the team fell to Elon Phenix, as they fell 31-22, on September 22nd.
They ended September with a 48-14 win over the Hampton Pirates on September 29th.
Charleston Southern fell to 1-3 with a loss to the Savannah State Tigers, 23-3, on October 6th. The team improved to 2-3 with a 58-6 win over the Virginia-Lynchburg Dragons one week later.
The team went to .500 with a 3-3 record, as they defeated the Presbyterian Blue Hose, 41-7, on October 20th. Their two-game win streak came to an end with a 38-10 loss to the Kennesaw State Owls on October 27th.
The Buccaneers fell to the Monmouth Hawks, 37-3, on November 3rd to fall to 3-5 on the season.
The team then went on a two-game win streak to go to 5-5 on the season. They defeated the Gardner Webb Runnin’ Bulldogs, 16-0, on November 10th. One week later, they defeated the Campbell Fighting Camels, 12-7, on November 17th.
In their season-finale, the team lost 43-14 to The Citadel Bulldogs on November 29th.
