Howard Bison hires Ron Prince as head coach

Ron Price has been hired as the Howard Bison head football coach. He takes over for Mike London, who left the team following the 2018 season.

London became the William & Mary Tribe head coach after the season. He replaces Jimmye Laycock, who retired once the season was over.


The 49-year-old Omaha, Nebraska native will be a head coach for the second-time in his coaching career. Prince previously spent three seasons as the Kansas State Wildcats head coach from 2006-2008.

As the Wildcats head coach, he went 17-20. His best season with the team was 7-6 in 2006, before finishing with back-to-back 5-7 records.

He spent the 2018 season as the Michigan Wolverines Offensive Analyst. Prince is also the second Wolverines assistant coach, who received a head coaching job after the season.

Jim McElwain, the team’s former wide receivers coach, was named the Central Michigan Chippewas head coach.

Before joining Michigan, he was the Detroit Lions Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach from 2015 through 2017. He also was the Lions Assistant Head Coach/Tight Ends Coach in 2014 and 2015.

He spent the 2013 season as the Rutgers Scarlet Knights Offensive Coordinator. He also was the Jacksonville Jaguars Assistant Offensive Line Coach in 2012.

In 2010 and 2011, he was the Indianapolis Colts Assistant Offensive Line Coach. He was the Virginia Cavaliers Special Teams Coach in 2009.

Before getting hired as the Wildcats head coach, he was the Cavaliers Offensive Coordinator from 2003 through 2005. He also was the Cavaliers Offensive Line Coach in 2001 and 2002.

He was the Cornell Big Red Offensive Line Coach from 1998 through 2000. Prince was the James Madison Dukes Offensive Line Coach from 1995 through 1997.

He spent the 1994 season as the South Carolina State Bulldogs Offensive Line coach. He also was the Alabama A&M Bulldogs Offensive Line Coach in 1993.

He began his coaching career with Dodge City Community College Conquistadors Volunteer Assistant Coach in 1992.
