According to sources, Miami (Florida) Hurricanes Defensive Coordinator Manny Diaz is expected to be the new Temple Owls head coach. The 44-year-old would continue a trend of Defensive-minded coaches, who received their first head coaching position with the Owls.
Former head coach Geoff Collins accepted the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coaching position after the season. Collins went 15-10 with the team in two seasons.
Diaz has spent the past three seasons as the Hurricanes Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach. He previously spent one season as the Mississippi State Bulldogs Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach in 2015.
The Miami, Florida native also spent one season as the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach in 2014. He spent three seasons as the Texas Longhorns Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach.
He also was the Bulldogs Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach in 2010. Prior to arriving in Mississippi, he was the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach in 2008 and 2009.
He also served two seasons as the Blue Raiders Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach in 2006 and 2007. He also served as the North Carolina State Wolfpack’s Safeties and Special Teams Coach in 2004 and 2005.
Diaz served as the Wolfpacks’ Linebackers Coach in 2002 and 2003. He spent the 2000 and 2001 seasons as the Wolfpack’s Graduate Assistant.
He also served as the Florida State Seminoles Graduate Assistant in 1998 and 1999.
