Maine faces Eastern Washington in first-ever meeting in 2018 FCS Playoffs

The No. 7 Maine Black Bears face the No. 3 Eastern Washington Eagles on Saturday, December 15th. The game will kick off at 2 pm EST on ESPN2 at Roos Field in Cheney, Washington.

The Eagles have an 18-11 playoff record in the FCS, including a 14-6 record at home. They also have won National Championship following the 2010 season.

The Black Bears are 5-7 in the FCS playoffs, including a 4-6 road record. This is the first-time in program history that they advanced to the Semifinals.

This is the first-ever meeting between the two schools. However, Maine is 2-2 all-time against Big Sky Conference schools.

The Black Bears defeated Northern Colorado (38-0) in 2004 for the second-win. They were defeated 27-20 to the Montana Grizzlies in 2004.

In addition, they also lost 30-20 to the Grizzlies at home in 2003.

This is the second straight Big Sky opponent for the Black Bears. They defeated Weber State 23-18 in the snow last Friday night.

The win was Maine’s seventh against ranked opponents this season.

Maine travels across country with a 10-3 record. They are on a six-game win streak.

They have not lost a game since being defeated 27-20 by the William & Mary Tribe on October 20th at Zable Stadium in Williamsburg, Virginia.

This is the Black Bears ninth road game of the season. This is a new record for the school, as they are 5-3 on the road.

It is also the furthest Maine has traveled in a road game in program history in the continental United States at 3,003 miles. The program played at Hawaii in 1990.

The Eagles are 11-2 on the season. They also bring a six-game win streak into the game.

They were defeated on October 13th by then-No. 13 Weber State Wildcats. They lost 14-6 at Stewart Stadium in Ogden, Utah.

This is Eastern Washington’s sixth semifinal appearance in 13 playoff appearances. The school is 29-15 against ranked opponents since 2010. They are also 10-7 against Top 10 teams.

The Eagles are also 3-1 against Colonial Athletic Association teams.

The football team defeated the Villanova Wildcats 41-31 in the 2010 semifinals. They also defeated the Delaware Blue Hens 20-19 in the 2010 Championship game.

The program defeated the Richmond Spiders, 38-0, in the 2016 quarterfinals. The loss came to the Towson Tigers, 35-31, in the 2013 semifinals.

Maine is scoring 27.1 points per game. Their defense is allowing 21.3 points per contest.

Eastern Washington is scoring 44.1 points per game. Their defense is also giving up 21.8 points per contest.

The Black Bears are averaging 339 total yards per game. Their defense is allowing 293.5 yards per contest.

The Eagles are averaging 538.3 total yards per game. Their defense is allowing 378.5 yards per contest.

Eagles quarterback Eric Barriere has gone 156 of 256 for 1,900 passing yards. He also has 17 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Sam McPherson leads the backs with 174 carries for 1,288 yards and 12 touchdowns. Nsimba Webster leads the receivers with 71 receptions for 1,099 yards and seven touchdowns.

Black Bears quarterback Chris Ferguson has gone 181 of 317 for 2,047 yards. He also has 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Ramon Jefferson leads the backs with 171 carries for 972 yards and eight touchdowns. Earnest Edwards leads the receivers with 49 receptions for 793 yards and 10 touchdowns.
