Trei Oliver has been named the North Carolina Central head football coach, according to FootballScoop. HBCU GameDay was the first to report the news.
Oliver takes over the program that was coached on an interim basis by Granville Eastman. He guided the team to a 5-6 record in 2018.
Eastman was named interim head coach shortly after former head coach Jerry Mack left the program to be named the Rice Owls Offensive Coordinator.

The losing record in 2018 was their first losing record since the 2013 season. That year, the team went 5-7.
Oliver is returning to his alma mater with this move. He had spent the last three seasons as the Southern Tigers Defensive coordinator.
He was hired prior to the 2016 season to coach the Tigers defense by Dawson Odums. Oliver joined head coach Rod Broadway on the Grambling State Tigers staff.
He then joined Broadway’s staff again with the North Carolina A&T Aggies. After a stint with the Hornets, he returned to his alma mater to work with Broadway.

He was a member of the team that saw the Eagles win back-to-back CIAA championships in 2005 and 2006. He began his coaching career with the Delaware State Hornets.
