Utah State hires Mike Sanford as Offensive Coordinator

The Utah State Aggies has hired Mike Sanford as its Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks coach on Gary Andersen’s staff. He joins the Aggies staff after being the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers head coach the past two seasons.

As the Hilltoppers head coach, he went 9-16. This past season, Sanford guided the team to a 3-9 record.

Prior to being named the Hilltoppers head coach, he was the Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach in 2015 and 2016. He also served as the Boise State Broncos Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach.

He also served as the Stanford Cardinal Quarterbacks and Wide Receivers Coach, along with being the Recruiting Coordinator in 2013. He served the Cardinal’s Running Backs Coach and Recruiting Coordinator in 2012. He also was the team’s Running Backs Coach in 2011.

He was the Hilltoppers Quarterbacks Coach in 2010. He also served as the Yale Bulldogs Tight Ends and Fullbacks Coach, along with being the Recruiting Coordinator.

Sanford was an Offensive Assistant with the Cardinal in 2007 and 2008. He began his coaching career with the UNLV Rebels as a Graduate Assistant in 2005 and 2006.

Sanford is the fourth coach hired by Andersen since he was hired. He hired Justin Ena as the team’s Defensive Coordinator.

Jordan Hicks was hired as the team’s Strength & Conditioning Coach. TJ Woods was also hired as the team’s Offensive Line Coach.

Andersen previously worked with Mike Sanford, Sr., in 2012. Sanford, Sr. is the father of Sanford, Jr.

Sanford, Sr., previously served as the Aggies Assistant Head Coach/Running Backs/Tight Ends Coach in 2012. He also worked under Andersen with the Utah Utes in 2003 and 2004.
