According to multiple sources, New England Patriots wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended indefinitely by the league. Gordon announced on Thursday morning that he was stepping away for mental health.

“I take my mental health very seriously at this point to ensure I remain able to perform at the highest level,” Gordon said in a statement on Thursday morning. “I have recently felt like I could get a better grasp of things mentally. With that said, I will be stepping away from the football field for a bit to focus on my mental health. I would like to thank Coach Belichick, Mr. Kraft, as well as countless others within the Patriots organization for their continued support. I want to thank my fans for their support as well as I continue down the path getting back to 100%.”

Gordon reportedly violated his terms of his reinstatement. And that’s the true reason why he’s stepping away.

So far, he hasn’t been able to tackle these problems in his life. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is also confirming the news that our sources have told us.

The Patriots reportedly knew that this could come at any time. New England acquired Gordon in a trade with the Cleveland Browns earlier this season.

The Browns — who has had so much faith in Gordon even when he was suspended for multiple seasons — traded him because they said he broke a promise with the new administration led by General Manager John Dorsey. The team traded him to the Patriots, where he could succeed on the field and off the field — as they provided him with a support system — but even they couldn’t help him.

There was a risk in making the deal. And the Patriots were willing to accept it to get another wide receiver on the field when they desperately needing it.

He was acquired when Julian Edelman was sidelined with his four-game suspension.

Gordon has been reportedly taking Xanax and using weed since middle school, according to reports. He ultimately overcame these struggles to give him a better life, but unfortunately, he wasn’t able to escape his problems.

This is another opportunity that he was given to have a better life. Now, his life as an NFL player may be over forever because he cannot stop his habit that he couldn’t escape.
