Cougars attempt to go 4-1 in the Armed Forces Bowl

The No. 17 Houston Cougars face the Army Black Knights on Saturday afternoon in the Lockheed Armed Forces Bowl. The game will kick off at 3:30 pm EST at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Cougars have an 8-4 record. They; however, are just 3-3 on the road this season.

The Black Knights has a 10-2 record. Like the Cougars, Army has three wins on the road, as they are 3-2 away from home.

According to Covers.com Consensus Analysis, the Black Knights have a 56% chance to win this game, according to their public poll. Their expert poll; however, gives Army a 60% chance to win.

This is the eighth meeting all-time between these two schools. However, this is the first meeting since 2004.

The Cougars have a 5-2 all-time record. Houston has won the last three meetings.

Houston won 35-21 over the Black Knights on September 18th, 2004. They also won 34-14 over the Black Knights on November 15th, 2003.

The Cougars won 56-42 over the Black Knights on October 19th, 2002.

Army last won in this series on October 6th, 2001, as they won 28-14. The Black Knights also won the inaugural meeting with a 38-28 win on October 10th, 1998.

The Cougars also won 31-30 over the Black Knights on September 16th, 2000. Houston also won 26-14 over Army on November 20th, 1999.

The Black Knights have a 5-2 all-time record in Bowl games. Army has won its last three Bowl games. They defeated the San Diego State Aztecs, 42-35, on December 23rd, 2017 in the Armed Forces Bowl.

The team also defeated the North Texas Mean Green, 38-31, in overtime, in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on December 27th, 2016. Army also won 16-14 over the SMU Mustangs in the Armed Forces Bowl on December 30th, 2010.

They have not lost a Bowl game since losing 32-29 to the Auburn Tigers in the Independence Bowl on December 31st, 1996.

The Black Knights are 2-0 all-time in the Armed Forces Bowl.

The Cougars has an 11-14-1 Bowl record all-time. Houston has lost its last two Bowl games. They lost 33-27 to the Fresno State Bulldogs in the Hawai’i Bowl last year.

One year earlier, the team lost 34-10 to the San Diego State Aztecs in the Las Vegas Bowl. The team has not won a Bowl game since a 38-24 win in the Peach Bowl against the Florida State Seminoles in 2015.

The Cougars are 3-1 all-time in the Armed Forces Bowl. Their only loss in this game came in a 47-20 loss to the Air Force Falcons in 2009.

The Cougars were defeated in their last regular season game. They lost 52-31 to the Memphis Tigers on November 23rd.

They have not won a game since defeating the Tulane Green Wave with a 48-17 win on November 15th.

The Black Knights has won their last eight games. They have not been defeated since September 22nd when they lost 28-21 to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Houston is averaging 46.4 points per game. Their offense is averaging 528.6 total yards per game.

Their defense is allowing 34.4 points per game. They are also yielding 488.9 total yards per contest.

Cougars quarterback D’Eriq King has gone 219 of 345 for 2,982 yards. He also has 36 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Patrick Carr leads the Cougars backs with 143 carries for 816 yards and five touchdowns. Marquez Stevenson leads the Cougars receivers with 67 receptions for 947 yards and nine touchdowns.

Army is averaging 29.7 points per game. Their offense is averaging 375.9 total yards per game.

Their defense is allowing 18 points per contest. They are also allowing 293.5 total yards per game.

Black Knights quarterback Kelvin Hopkins Jr. has gone 48 of 90 for 956 yards. He also has six touchdowns and three interceptions.

Darnell Woolfolk leads the Black Knights backs with 210 carries for 885 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jordan Asberry leads the Black Knights receivers with nine receptions for 197 yards and three touchdowns.
