Marshall wins 12th Bowl game in 38-20 win over South Florida

The Marshall Thundering Herd won the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl on Thursday night. The Thundering Herd defeated the South Florida Bulls, 38-20, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

The Thundering Herd ended their season with a 9-4 record. Marshall has now improved to 12-3 in Bowl games.

Head coach Doc Holliday is now 6-0 as the team’s head coach in Bowl games.

He has guided the team to back-to-back Bowl wins. Last year, he guided the team to a 31-28 win over the Colorado State Rams in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl on December 16th, 2017 at Dreamstyle Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Bulls fell to 7-6 overall. South Florida is the first program to start the season with seven straight wins, then lose their next six games.

In addition, the Bulls had their two-game Bowl win streak snapped. They are now 6-4 in Bowl games.

Thundering Herd quarterback Isaiah Green went 17 of 25 for 221 yards.

Keion Davis had 14 carries for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Tyre Brady had five receptions for 88 yards.

Bulls quarterback Blake Barnett went 11 of 23 for 212 yards. He also had a touchdown.

Johnny Ford had 11 carries for 50 yards. Randall St. Felix had six receptions for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Marshall scored 10 points in the second half. Davis scored on a 16-yard rushing touchdown. Justin Rohrwasser also made a 28-yard field goal.

South Florida scored 10 points in the second half. Barnett hit St. Felix for a 33-yard touchdown reception. Coby Weiss also made a 31-yard field goal.

The Thundering Herd led 28-10 at halftime. Green scored on a 10-yard rushing touchdown. Artis Anderson also scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Brenden Knox scored on an eight-yard rushing touchdown. Davis also scored on a five-yard rushing touchdown.

Bulls’ Tyre McCants hit St. Feliz for a 38-yard touchdown reception. Weiss also made a 22-yard field goal.
