Western Michigan will attempt to win second Bowl game against BYU

The Western Michigan Broncos face the BYU Cougars in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The game will kick off at 4 pm on ESPN at Albertsons Stadium in Boise, Idaho.

The Broncos bring a 7-5 record into this Bowl game. They were 4-2 on the road this season.

The Cougars are .500 with a 6-6 record. They; however, were 3-3 on the road.

According to Covers.com Consensus Analysis, the Broncos have a 55% chance to win this game, according to their public poll. Their expert poll also gives the Broncos a 52% chance to win the game.

This is the sixth all-time meeting between these two football programs. However, this will be the team’s first meeting since 1970.

BYU leads the all-time series with a 3-2 record. Yet, their last win in the series came with a 17-7 win on September 21st, 1968.

Western Michigan won 35-17 in the last game in the series on September 19th, 1970. The Broncos also won the initial meeting, 28-20, on November 10th, 1962.

The Broncos have a 1-7 Bowl record all-time. Western Michigan lost their last Bowl game, 24-16, to the Wisconsin Badgers in the Cotton Bowl Classic in 2016.

This is the second Famous Idaho Potato Bowl for the Broncos. They lost 38-24 to the Air Force Falcons on December 20th, 2014.

The Cougars have a 14-20-1 Bowl record all-time. BYU won its last Bowl game, which snapped a three-game Bowl losing streak.

BYU defeated the Wyoming Cowboys, 24-21, in the Poinsettia Bowl on December 21st, 2016. Their last Bowl loss was a 35-28 loss to the Utah Utes in the Las Vegas Bowl on December 19th, 2015.

This is the first-time that the Cougars will be playing in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

The Broncos won their last regular season game. They defeated the Northern Illinois Huskies, 28-21, on November 20th.

Western Michigan hasn’t lost a game since November 13th. They lost 42-41 to the Ball State Cardinals.

The Cougars lost their last regular season game. They were defeated 35-27 to the Utes on November 24th.

BYU’s last win came on November 17th. They defeated the New Mexico State Aggies, 45-10.

The Broncos are averaging 33.2 points per game. Their offense is averaging 447.2 total yards per game.

Western Michigan’s defense is allowing 33.3 points per game. Their defense is allowing 378.5 yards per contest.

Broncos quarterback Jon Wassink has gone 151 of 245 for 1,994 yards. He also has 16 touchdowns and six interceptions.

LeVante Bellamy leads all the Broncos backs with 190 carries for 1,172 yards and six touchdowns. Jayden Reed leads the Broncos receivers with 56 receptions for 797 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Cougars are averaging 25.4 points per game. Their offense is allowing 354.4 total yards per game.

BYU’s defense is allowing 21.7 points per game. Their defense is allowing 325 total yards per contest.

Cougars quarterback Zach Wilson has gone 102 of 164 for 1,261 yards. He also has eight touchdowns and three interceptions.

Lopini Katoa leads the Cougars backs with 76 carries for 423 yards and eight touchdowns. Matt Bushman leads the Cougars receivers with 25 receptions for 459 yards and two touchdowns.
