The Rhode Island Rams defeated the Charlotte 49ers on Monday morning in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. The Rams won 75-61 over the 49ers at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawai’i.
The Rams improved to 6-4 on the season. They are now 2-1 in neutral site games.
Rhode Island is on a one-game win streak after suffering a loss to the Bucknell Bison on Saturday, December 22nd.
The 49ers fell to 3-7 on the season. They are now 0-2 in their two neutral site games.
Charlotte is also on a two-game losing streak. Their last win came on Tuesday, December 18th against the East Carolina Pirates when they won 55-49.
Fatts Russell led the Rams with 20 points. He also had one rebound, four assists, and two steals.
This is the fourth-time during the season that Russell scored 20 or more points. He had a season-high 26 points in the team’s 84-82 loss to the Bison in this tournament.
He was one of four Rhode Island players, who scored in double-figures. Jeff Dowtin scored 15, while Cyril Langevine had 13, and Christion Thompson contributed 12.
The Rams had eight bench points. Tyrese Martin also had four rebounds.
Malik Martin led the 49ers with 16 points. He also had six rebounds, one assist, four steals, and one block.
This was his second-best performance of the season in this contest. He had a season-high 17 points against the Longwood Lancers on November 19th.
Martin was one of three Charlotte players, who scored in double-digits. Jon Davis added 14, while Brandon Younger scored 10.
The 49ers had 16 bench points. Brandon Younger led the bench with 10 points. He also had four rebounds and one steal.
