Blue Devils blow out Owls in Independence Bowl

The Duke Blue Devils used a big second half to defeat the Temple Owls on Thursday afternoon. The Blue Devils won 56-27 over the Owls in the Walk-On’s Independence Bowl at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, Louisiana.


The Blue Devils improved to 6-8 all-time in Bowl games. They have won their last three Bowl games.


The Owls fell to 3-5 in Bowl games all-time. This loss snapped their one-game Bowl win streak, as they had defeated the FIU Panthers, 28-3, in the Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl on December 21st, 2017.


The Blue Devils improved to 8-5 on the season. Their two-game losing streak was snapped with this win.


The Owls fell to 8-5 on the season. Their three-game win streak was snapped with this loss.

Blue Devils quarterback Daniel Jones has gone 30 of 41 for 423 yards. He had five touchdowns and two interceptions. Quentin Harris went 2 of 3 for 17 yards. He also had an interception. Deon Jackson had 10 carries for 41 yards. Brittain Brown had five carries for 19 yards and a touchdown. Harris also had six carries for 16 yards and a touchdown. Jones also had six carries for -6 yards and a touchdown. T.J. Rahming had 12 receptions for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Taylor had three receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown. Johnathan Lloyd had five receptions for 47 yards. Jake Bobo had a seven-yard touchdown reception. Davis Koppenhaver had a four-yard touchdown reception.


Owls quarterback Anthony Russo went 25 of 46 for 228 yards. He also had a touchdown and an interception.

Jager Gardner had seven carries for 34 yards. Rob Ritrovato had eight carries for 15 yards and a touchdown. Russo had seven carries for 12 yards and a touchdown.

Brodrick Yancy had five receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. Branden Mack had three receptions for 45 yards. Sean Mack had three receptions for 44 yards. Ventell Bryant had four receptions for 31 yards.

Duke scored 35 points in the second half. Jones scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Jones hit Rahming for an 85-yard touchdown reception. Jones also hit Bobo for a seven-yard touchdown reception.

Brown scored on a four-yard rushing touchdown. Jones hit Koppenhaver for a four-yard touchdown reception.

The Owls led 27-21 at halftime. Russo scored on a 15-yard rushing touchdown. Delvon Randall scored on a 52-yard interception return for a touchdown. Following this touchdown, Will Mobley’s PAT failed.

Ritrovato scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown. Russo also hit Yancy for an eight-yard touchdown reception.

Blue Devils’ Harris scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown. Jones hit Taylor for a 34-yard touchdown reception.

Jones also hit Rahming for a 22-yard touchdown reception.
