Boilermakers, Tigers clash for first-time in Music City Bowl

The Purdue Boilermakers face the Auburn Tigers in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl on Friday, December 28th. The game will kick off at 1:30 pm EST at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Boilermakers come into this game with a 6-6 record. Three of their six wins have come on the road (3-3 overall).

The Tigers come into this contest with a 7-5 record. Just one of Auburn’s wins have come on the road (1-3 overall).

According to Covers.com Consensus Analysis, the Tigers have a 62% chance to win this game, according to their public poll. Their expert poll; however, gives Auburn a 61% chance to win this game.

This is the first meeting between these two schools.

The Boilermakers are 10-8 all-time in Bowl games. They won their last Bowl game.

They defeated the Arizona Wildcats, 38-35, in the Foster Farms Bowl on December 27th, 2017 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

The Bowl win against the Wildcats snapped their one-game Bowl losing streak. Purdue lost 58-14 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys on January 1st, 2013 at Cotton Bowl Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

This is the Boilermakers first appearance in the Music City Bowl. Head Coach Jeff Brohm is 1-0 in Bowl games at the school.

The Tigers are 23-16-2 all-time in Bowl games. They have lost their last two Bowl games.

Auburn was defeated 34-27 by the UCF Knights in the 50th anniversary of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl on January 1st, 2018 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. They also lost 35-19 to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on January 2nd, 2017 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Their last Bowl win came in the Birmingham Bowl in a 31-10 win over the Memphis Tigers on December 30th, 2015 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

This is the Tigers second appearance in the Music City Bowl. They defeated the Wisconsin Badgers, 28-14, on December 31st, 2003.

Head Coach Gus Malzahn is 1-4 in Bowl games as the Tigers head coach.  

The Boilermakers won their last regular season game, as they defeated the Indiana Hoosiers, 28-21, on November 24th. Their last regular season loss came on November 17th against the Wisconsin Badgers in triple overtime, as they fell 47-44.

Purdue is averaging 31.9 points per game. Their offense is averaging 459 total yards per game.

Their defense is allowing 27.3 points per game. Their defense is allowing 441.5 total yards per contest.

Boilermakers quarterback David Blough has gone 283 of 425 for 3,521 yards. He has 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

D.J. Knox leads the Boilermakers backs with 150 carries for 868 yards and eight touchdowns. Rondale Moore leads the Boilermakers receivers with 103 receptions for 1,164 yards and 12 touchdowns.

The Tigers lost their last regular season game with a 52-21 loss to No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide on November 24th. Their last regular season win came in a 53-0 win over the Liberty Flames on November 17th.

Auburn is averaging 28.3 points per game. Their offense is averaging 373.6 total yards per game.

Their defense is allowing 19.6 points per game. In addition, their defense is allowing 363.1 total yards per contest.

Tigers quarterback Jarrett Stidham has gone 209 of 348 for 2,421 yards. He also has 13 touchdowns and five interceptions.

JaTarvious Whitlow leads the Tigers backs with 143 carries for 777 yards and four touchdowns. Ryan Davis leads the Tigers receivers with 64 receptions for 523 yards.
