Late TD helps Baylor defeat Vanderbilt in Texas Bowl

The Baylor Bears defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores in the Academy Sports + Outdoors Texas Bowl on Thursday night. The Bears won 45-38 over the Commodores at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

The Bears improved to 7-6 on the season. They ended the season on a two game win streak.

Baylor improved to 13-11 all-time in Bowl games. They now have a three-game Bowl win streak.

The Commodores fell to 6-7 with the loss.. They had their two game win streak snapped with this loss.

Vanderbilt fell to 4-4-1 in Bowl games all-time. They now have lost their last two Bowl games.

Bears quarterback Charlie Brewer went 21 of 34 for 384 yards. He also had two touchdowns and one interception.

Brewer had 16 carries for 109 yards and a touchdown. Trestan Ebner had 13 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown. JaMycal Hasty had eight carries for 58 yards and a touchdown. John Lovett had nine carries for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Ebner had three receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown. Denzel Mims had six receptions for 95 yards. Tyquan Thornton had three receptions for 72 yards. Marques Jones had a 52-yard touchdown reception.

Commodores quarterback Kyle Shurmur went 18 of 37 for 286 yards. He had a one touchdown.

Ke’Shawn Vaughn had 13 carries for 243 yards and two touchdowns. C.J. Bolar had two carries for 24 yards. Khari Blasingame had four carries for 16 yards and two touchdowns.

Blasingame had three receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown. Jared Pinkney had five receptions for 76 yards. Amir Abdur-Rahman had a 52-yard reception. Bolar had three receptions for 43 yards. 

Baylor had 28 points in the second half. Ebner scored on a 34-yard rushing touchdown. Brewer scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Brewer hit Ebner for a 75-yard touchdown reception. Brewer hit Jones for a 52-yard touchdown reception.

Vanderbilt had 17 points in the second half. Blasingame also scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown.

Blasingame scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown. Ryley Guay made a 33-yard field goal.

The Commodores led 21-17 at halftime. Shurmur hit Blasingame for a 65-yard touchdown reception.

Vaughn scored on a 68-yard rushing touchdown. Vaughn also scored on a 69-yard rushing touchdown.

Bears’ Lovett scored on a 12-yard rushing touchdown. Hasty scored on an 18-yard rushing touchdown.

Connor Martin made a 23-yard field goal.
