Orange defeat Mountaineers to win 10 games for first-time since 2001

The No. 20 Syracuse Orange defeated No. 16 West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday night in the Camping World Bowl. The Orange won 34-18 over the Mountaineers at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida.


The Orange improved to 10-3 on the season with the win. They ended their season on a two-game win streak.


Syracuse had its first 10-win season since the 2001 season when they went 10-3, as well. It is just their fourth 10-win season since the 1990 season.


The Orange have won their last four Bowl games. They have not lost a Bowl game since losing 51-14 to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Champs Sports Bowl at Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida.


The Mountaineers fell to 8-4 with the loss. They ended the season with three straight losses.


West Virginia has also lost three straight Bowl games. Their last Bowl came in the Cactus Bowl in a 43-42 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils on January 2nd, 2016.

Orange quarterback Eric Dungey went 21 of 30 for 303 yards. He also had a touchdown and two interceptions.


Moe Neal had eight carries for 42 yards. Dontae Strickland had nine carries for 28 yards. Dungey had 17 carries for 22 yards. Abdul Adams had eight carries for 19 yards and two touchdowns. Jarveon Howard also had a four-yard rushing touchdown.


Jamal Custis had five receptions for 80 yards. Taj Harris had four receptions for 55 yards. Neal had a 42-yard reception. Aaron Hackett had three receptions for 42 yards.


Trishton Jackson had three receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown. Sean Riley also had a 23-yard reception.


Mountaineers quarterback Jack Allison went 17 of 35 for 277 yards. He also had an interception.


Kennedy McKoy had 17 carries for 73 yards and a touchdown. Martell Pettaway had four carries for 61 yards. Tevin Bush also had a 20-yard rushing touchdown.


David Sills V had four receptions for 90 yards. T.J. Simmons had six receptions for 64 yards. Kwincy Hall had a 43-yard reception. Bush had a 34-yard reception.



Syracuse scored 20 points in the second half. Dungey hit Jackson for a 14-yard touchdown reception. Howard scored on a four-yard rushing touchdown.


Andre Szmyt also made two field goals.


West Virginia had six points in the second half. Evan Staley made two field goals.


The Orange led 14-12 at halftime. Adams scored on a four-yard rushing touchdown. Adams also scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.


Mountaineers’ McKoy scored on a three-yard rushing touchdown. Following the touchdown, Staley’s PAT failed.


Staley also made two field goals.
