South Carolina looks for win No. 22 vs. Virginia in Belk Bowl

The South Carolina Gamecocks face the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday afternoon. The Belk Bowl at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina will kick off at noon on ABC in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Cavaliers bring a 7-5 record into this Bowl game. They; however, just have one road win (1-4 overall).

The Gamecocks also have a 7-5 record. Two of their seven wins have come on the road (2-3 overall).

According to Covers.com Consensus Analysis, the Cavaliers have a 55% chance to win this game, according to their public poll. Their expert poll, however, gives Virginia a 60% chance to win this game.

This is the 35th all-time meeting between the schools. Virginia has 12 wins and South Carolina has 21.

There was also a tie between these two teams. They tied at 10 all on October 19th, 1963.

South Carolina won the last meeting 31-7 on September 6th, 2003. Virginia’s last win came on September 7th, 2002 in a 34-21 win.

The Gamecocks have a 9-13 all-time record in Bowl games. They have a one-game Bowl win streak.

South Carolina defeated the Michigan Wolverines, 26-19, on January 1st, 2018 in the Outback Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Their last Bowl loss came in a 46-39 overtime loss to the South Florida Bulls in the Birmingham Bowl on December 29th, 2016 at Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama.

This is South Carolina’s first appearance in the Belk Bowl. Head Coach Will Muschamp is 1-1 in Bowl games as Gamecocks head coach.

They lost 49-7 to the Navy Midshipmen in the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman on December 28th, 2017 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. Their last Bowl win came in a 34-31 win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the Music City Bowl on December 30th, 2005 at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Gamecocks won their last regular season game with a 28-3 win over the Akron Zips on December 1st. Their last regular season loss came in a 56-35 loss to No. 2 Clemson Tigers on November 24th.

South Carolina is averaging 32.6 points per game. Their offense is averaging 440.2 total yards per game.

Gamecocks quarterback Jake Bentley has gone 223 of 349 for 2,953 yards. He also has 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
