Buckeyes give Meyer going away gift, defeat Huskies in Rose Bowl Game

The No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes defeated the No. 9 Washington Huskies on New Year’s Day. The Buckeyes won 28-23 over the Huskies in the Rose Bowl Game presented by Northwestern Mutual at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

The Buckeyes ended their season with a 13-1 record. They have won their last six games.

Ohio State improved to 25-25 all-time in Bowl games. They have won their last two Bowl games. 

In addition, they give Head Coach Urban Meyer a good send-off as this was his final game with the team. Ryan Day gets promoted from Offensive Coordinator to Head Coach on Wednesday.
The Huskies fell to 10-4 on the season. The loss snapped their four-game win streak. 

Washington fell to 18-21-1 all-time in Bowl games. They have a three-game Bowl losing streak.

Buckeyes quarterback Dwayne Haskins — who was likely playing his last collegiate game — went 25 of 37 for 251 yards. He also had three touchdowns.

Mike Weber had 15 carries for 96 yards. J.K. Dobbins had seven carries for 24 yards and a touchdown.

Parris Campbell had 11 receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. K.J. Hill had three receptions for 54 yards. Binjimen Victor had three receptions for 34 yards. Johnnie Dixon had two receptions for 27 yards and a touchdown. Rashod Berry also had a one-yard touchdown reception.

Huskies quarterback Jake Browning went 35 of 54 for 313 yards. Myles Gaskin went 1 of 1 for 2 yards and a touchdown.

Gaskin had 24 carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns.

Andre Baccellia had 12 receptions for 109 yards. Aaron Fuller had seven receptions for 80 yards. Hunter Bryant had four receptions for 51 yards. Drew Sample had two receptions for one yard and a touchdown.

Washington had 20 points in the second half. Gaskins hit Sample for a two-yard touchdown reception. Gaskin scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Gaskin scored on a two-yard rushing touchdown. The two-point conversion attempted failed.

Ohio State had seven points in the second half. Dobbins scored on a three-yard rushing touchdown.

The Buckeyes led 21-3 at halftime. Haskins hit Campbell for a 12-yard touchdown reception. Haskins hit Dixon for a 19-yard touchdown reception.

Haskins also hit Berry for a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Huskies’ Peyton Henry made a 38-yard field goal.
