White Sox makes offer to free agent Manny Machado

The Chicago White Sox are the first team to make an offer to Manny Machado. They are expected to be one of several teams, who make an offer to the free agent.

The White Sox have targeted two of the top free agents. The team is also in the mix for fellow free agent Bryce Harper.

Chicago has had constant communication with Harper, according to USA Today’s Bob Nightendale.

The White Sox were one of several teams to meet with Machado. He also met with the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies.

The team is reportedly more focused on Machado at the moment.

He is expected to sign soon. The White Sox begin spring training in February.

Machado has played shortstop and third base in his career. If he does sign with the White Sox, the team would have to potentially move one of their third basemen on their depth chart to a new position.

Presently, the White Sox have Yolmer Sánchez and José Rondón as third basemen on their depth chart.

The 26-year-old Hialeah, Florida native split this season between the Baltimore Orioles and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was traded to the Dodgers around the trade deadline.

With the Orioles, he had a .315 batting average with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs in 96 games.

After being acquired by the Dodgers, he had a .273 batting average with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs in 66 games.
